Program Dates: 21 - 23 January 2019
Best Apply Before: 31 December 2018
More than just marine biology – investigate all options linked to aquatic ecology, both marine and freshwater, as well as expanding experiences beyond science into other areas such as law enforcement…
This exciting opportunity is being hosted by the Victorian Fisheries Authorities’ (VFA) Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre (MFDC). The Discovery Centre is based at the VFA’s Queenscliff site, which is also the main marine science facility. Career and future study options - hear scientists give short presentations on their exciting and challenging careers, the interesting and unusual pathways that lead to opportunities in this field and current research projects. Have the opportunity to participate in fascinating laboratory sessions and field trips that focus on either marine or freshwater ecology, biology or botany. Participate in practical laboratory sessions/demonstrations such as fish dissections, techniques in investigating aquatic ecosystems, freshwater macro-invertebrate investigations and how science backgrounds can lead to unusual career pathways such as law enforcement (Fisheries Officers). Field trips include canoeing, snorkelling, intertidal rock platform and a bay investigation.
