Privacy Statement
In 2001, the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments introduced legislation that deals with the manner in which public and private sector organisations may record, use, store and disclose information collected from individuals. The Siemens Science Experience is committed to upholding and implementing the Privacy Principles set out in the legislation.
Collection of information
The only personal information collected and maintained is the information provided by yourself that is directly related to participation in The Siemens Science Experience. We will not collect or solicit information which would be unlawful, unnecessary or unrelated to The Siemens Science Experience.
The information is restricted to details provided on the application form and any additional information that you decide to provide that may assist the organisers of the program.
Use of information
Access to the information is restricted to the National Director, Administrative Co-ordinator and the local organisers in the university where you are enrolled.
We limit the use of the information you provide to facilitating your participation in The Siemens Science Experience and will not disclose, sell or trade your personal information to any other individual or organisation.
If a like organisation wishes to make known to you another study opportunity in science (for example, BHP Billiton Science Student Awards) we may agree to distribute information by post on its behalf, using our mailing facilities, but not making available any of your personal information. Any such distribution will be strictly limited to one or two organisations and on a "one-off" annual basis only.
Security
When you provide personal information, it is passed through our secure server using encryption technology which scrambles credit card details (card type, number and expiry date) to ensure it is protected over the internet. Stored information about you is further protected from unauthorised access through the use of firewalls, secure passwords and sign in processes.
However, because there is always some risk of the interception of personal information that is distributed via the internet and e-mail, in addition to our electronic application form we always provide users with an alternative means to send in that information, for example by post or fax.
E-mail Management
We will record your e-mail address if you send us a message. It will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it and will not be added to a mailing list. We will not use your e-mail address for any other purpose, and will not disclose it, without your consent.
Site visit data
Our service provider makes a record of your visit and logs the following information for statistical purposes - the user's server address, the user's top level domain name (eg. .com, .au, .gov, .uk, etc.), the date and time of the visit to the site, the pages accessed and documents downloaded, the previous site visited and the type of browser used. No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect the service provider's logs.
